The department started working with the inception of the institute in 1983. The department has actively contributed towards teaching Applied Physics to first year B.E. students. The curriculum objective is to enable the students to co-relate the theoretical principles of fundamentals of modern aspects in physics with application oriented studies of engineering. At the end of the course, the students would be exposed to fundamental knowledge in (i) Electromagnetic phenomenon and wave propagation. (ii) Application of quantum physics to optical and electrical phenomenon. (iii) Application of Lasers and fibre optics in Engineering and Technology. (iv) Semiconducting materials and devices (v) Application of ultrasonics and acoustics.
The department has well equipped laboratories including dark room for first year students. Laboratory has experiments based on semiconductor devices, optics, modern physics and electric and magnetic field such as Band-gap energy, Newton’s ring, Plane transmission grating with advance spectrometer, ultrasonic interferometer, Hall effect and Laser. The department is recognized by SGB Amravati University, Amravati for the research work. The department follows the practice of ISO 9001:2008. The students are given personal attention and forced to perform experiments in the laboratory. The students of higher classes do visit the department for their project work.
